RingCentral Mobile Contest Giveaway#
Post By Steve "fyiguy" Hughes

RingCentral Mobile is a cloud-based virtual PBX service that enables small businesses to enjoy the same level of PBX service that large companies do without the expense of purchasing and maintaining expensive hardware and software licenses. RingCentral furnishes you with a toll-free number at signup or you can forward your existing phone service to RingCentral that will handle and deliver phone calls to multiple numbers any way you wish. All incoming calls are re-routed as you choose, sending calls to the relevant receivers depending on parameters you have set for them, using its built-in auto attendant. This call routing can be done by groups or as a directory. It can be as simple as having a certain extension for sales call going to a person in your company that handles sales by ringing their office line first for a set number of rings, then their mobile, and then their home office line before going to voicemail or another person. You also have internet fax and voicemail capabilities from any PC you log onto as well as full management capabilities with an easy to use web interface.

Ivy Worldwide Wins HP Circle Award!#
    Post By Steve "fyiguy" Hughes

Well, congratulations are in order for our hard working friends over at Ivy Worldwide (formerly Buzz Corps), who were selected by Hewlett Packard for the HP Circle Award by HP Worldwide Marketing Executives in an an extensive competition among several other marketing companies. The had also were the 2008 Wommie Award Winner for the 31 Days of the Dragon Giveaway Promotion.

    hp circle-award

Ivy Worldwide created the "31 Days of the Dragon" promotion in July 2008 - which ran on 31 separate blogger sites for 31 days. We were extremely fortunate to have participated with 30 other websites and blogs, where BostonPocketPC was honored to be selected to be a part of this promotional program for HP.

There were 411 entries of various promotional campaigns from 36 countries, each of which was seeking recognition for their work in promoting HP products. HP Global Marketing Executives were seeking to reward the highest performers that showed creativity, a high return on investment, and brand building via the HP Circle Award.

    HP Circle Award

Created to celebrate MARKETING AND DESIGN EXCELLENCE at the company, HP’s CIRCLE Awards have created some fierce internal competition. In 2009, the global technology leader saw an unprecedented 411 entries pouring in from 36 participating countries for the chance to be recognized with this prestigious award sponsored by HP’s GLOBAL MARKETING EXECUTIVES.

Entries were judged according to the CIRCLE criteria of Collaboration, Innovation, Relevance, Consistency, LEADERSHIP, and Effectiveness. The overall goal: to reward CREATIVITY, ROI and brand building. In the first round of judging, review panels from within HP chose finalists in each of 14 categories. In the second round, executive judges were invited to HP headquarters to select CIRCLE Award winners

Again Congratulations! Not only to Ivy Worldwide, but this is something that should be shared with every blogger who participated in the campaign and their online communities!

    Ivy Worldwide Logo Contest#
    Post By Steve "fyiguy" Hughes

Many of the cool contests here like the 31 Days of the Dragon,Boston Pocket PC’s HP Magic Giveaway Contest, and Pantech Giveaway have been done with the help from the great folks over at Buzz Corps. Buzz Corps is now evolving into its new identity:  Ivy Worldwide

“The rapid growth of social media has given us the opportunity to overgrow our boundaries, and along with that evolve the concept and name of our company.  While our company name and offerings are changing, we will still carry out the same philosophy which is that we work with the community to create programs that deliver mutual benefits for your sites and our clients. With the new name we’ll also need a new logo and this is where we would like to ask for your help.

We know there are a lot of talented people on sites like yours who might be looking for some extra cash or a way to show their creative skills. If possible, would you mind sharing the word with your readers about our logo design contest?  Hopefully one of your readers might win the grand prize of $2500 cash or other prizes like an HP Mini, HP Printer or Wacom Tablet.

    ivy-worldwide

I made up the above quick logo in less than 10 minutes as you can see I am by no means a professional graphic artist. If you are or have aspirations to be one here is a chance to to show your stuff and get noticed and put some cash and prizes in your pocket as well.

    Microsoft Tag Introduces Custom Tags#
    Post By Steve "fyiguy" Hughes

Previously, a Microsoft Tag had to be a square filled with geometric colored or black/white triangles. These tags could then be read by a mobile application that provided an “easy link” to additional content on a webpage.

    microsoft tag

The folks at Microsoft research have now added the dot method and add a background image to a Microsoft Tag, like the one shown in the picture Viva Piñata below where the confetti is actually an array of dots that is part of the Microsoft tag.

    VivaTag

You can incorporate the symbols into the overall look by manipulating the Tag in a graphic design application. Breathtaking machine readable codes can be created that provide design flexibility while preserving machine readability. By following the straightforward Custom Tag Creation Guidelines you'll be on your way to creating the most advanced and eye pleasing codes that exist.

    JellyBeanTag

Can you see the Microsoft Tag in the jellybean image above?

If you really like these tags and want to see if you can make some cool ones of your own be sure to read up on the Custom Tag Creation Guidelines and enter you design in the The Tag Slaps Design Contest, which challenges you to create an original custom design Tag and a mobile experience creative concept for it.

The Tag Slaps Design Contest challenges you to create an original customized Tag and creative concept for an accompanying mobile experience. Your entry should include a working customized Tag that leads to a mobile web site, as well as a creative concept for a mobile site. The mobile site experience concept should engage your customer and encourage them to take an action such as signing up for a service, getting more information about your product, downloading a special offer or an application, and more.

Semi-finalists are chosen by a panel of Tag enthusiasts comprised of business leaders, online and offline marketers, and designers. The winner is voted on by you-the Tag community!

What is a Tag Slaps, you ask? In the graffiti world, a "slaps" is defined as a sticker with a writer or tagger's tag on it. A slaps can be spread more quickly than other forms of graffiti, making it a favorite in many places such as newspaper dispensers, stop signs, phone booths, and more.

With Microsoft Tag, you can now customize the look of a Tag so that it embodies your brand, a message or theme, or a really cool visual! It's your personal slaps.

AT&T Pantech Matrix Pro Giveaway – Day 13#
    Post By Steve "fyiguy" Hughes

Jake was a bit late in announcing his contest as the thirteenth contest in the Pantech Matrix Pro Giveaway over at Jake Ludington’s Digital Lifestyle and will extend it another day to May 2nd at 7PM PST. to be fair like the other contests here are the details of his contest:

    mediablab pantech

Somewhere in the midst of all the excitement around having a new baby arrive, I missed the memo that I was supposed to be announcing another giveaway yesterday. This time around the giveaway is a brand new Pantech Matrix Pro cell phone (pictured below) paired with a $100 gift card to ATT Wireless, which happens to be the carrier associated with the phone. If you live outside the U.S., you’ll likely want to skip this one, since the phone is locked and the gift card won’t be particularly useful to you either…

How to enter the giveaway? I’ll keep this one simple - all you have to do is be a fan of my Facebook page (which is different than being a friend on Facebook). I’m doing a talk on Facebook for businesses on May 15 and this will help me with some additional research. The recipient of the phone will be selected at random from all fans (which are listed in the sidebar on the Facebook page) who live in the United States. Be a fan to qualify.

I was originally supposed to announce the conclusion of the giveaway on 1 May 2009, but I’m extending it by 24 hours since I got a late start.

More details on Jake’s contest can be found at Jake Ludington’s Digital Lifestyle.

Be sure to head back here for details on our contest which begins on May 3rd and to check back daily on the details of the 25 other chances to win a Pantech Matrix Pro.

As with any contest there are rules for each different contest but these rules apply to all of the participating 26 sites:

    • Winners are limited by geography to US residents only. This is due to the fact that the phone is locked to ATT’s network and service credit/gift card is redeemable only within the US
    • Individuals who have won at another site are ineligible to win at another

    Good Luck!!!

    Pantech Matrix Pro Tweetstakes#
    Post By Steve "fyiguy" Hughes

Pantech will be starting up a new contest for all you Tweople & Twitiizens out there with a chance to win one of many Pantech Matrix Pro smartphones to be given away as well as a chance to win the grand prize of $25,000! This contest is covering the launch of the Pantech Matrix Pro web site and their twitter page for their Tweetstakes promotional contest:

    Tweetstakes

"The Matrix Pro by Pantech has a new home online: pantechmatrixpro.com, the first place to go for all you need to know about this exciting new smartphone. See the Matrix Pro's unique dual-keyboard design in action; get the lowdown on all of the Matrix Pro's great features; read blog entries highlighting the latest Matrix Pro news and reviews; get information about the upcoming Tweetstakes featuring a grand prize of $25,000; and follow handy links to purchase your very own Matrix Pro online. Visit pantechmatrixpro.com to experience the site for yourself."

The Matrix Pro Tweetstakes is coming! Every day during the Tweetstakes, we'll be asking a question about assorted topics related to the mobile lifestyle. (For example, "Breaking up via text: done it to anyone? Had it happen to you? Fair game or bad form?")

The sweepstakes is designed to celebrate the Matrix Pro, so Pantech and AT&T are giving away prizes to Twitter users who follow and reply to @matrixpro.  The format is:

    1. Each day, Pantech/AT&T will tweet a question from @matrixpro
    2. Followers tweet their responses to @matrixpro
    3. Each day, Pantech/AT&T pick a user from the replies to win a free Matrix Pro
    4. At the end of the sweepstakes, one very lucky player will win $25,000
    5. Players can also enter by email, but entering via Twitter is easier

So sign up for the Tweetstakes and watch your Twitter feed - some of my favorite ways to do be part of the “tweetosphere” from a windows mobile device is via Pocketwit and Twikini.

Good Luck and may the Tweet be with you!!!

Again Congratulations to all our winners! Here are some of the interesting entries that were submitted:

-Two years ago I got my wife an MP3 play from iAudio that would work with her Mac.She had not used it; I was thinking she didn't like the ear buds. So, last year I got her an external portable speaker. She still has not used it.Flowers the past two years would have probably cost less, and been better appreciated.

-I gave my mom a key chain with an electric picture frame two Christmases ago.  Last year we asked her how she liked it.  She said, “Oh, it stores pictures.”  So, it did not go over at all as we expected.

-Ok, so I'm a neat freak and my wife is…well…she isn't.  So, I thought it would be great to get her these wire mesh organizational compartments to help her keep her office organized.  She has a bunch of mail/journals/pictures that she keeps near her computer and it was always such a mess.  They all matched and went really well with the color scheme of the computer and desk.  I thought I did really well picking them out.  She was super excited to see all seven items I wrapped for her….until she opened them!  Wow, she is not good at hiding her feelings.  I thought she was going to cry.  Flowers would have been better…I think rocks would have been better!  I was so bummed out!  I would have loved to get them as a gift!  Needless to say I put all her things in them as she moped around a little.  She was actually very gracious and told me she liked them, but I could tell she was disappointed.  I would like to do better this year!

-Being a mother of two boys and a wife to a very active husband, our house is a full-time fun place to laugh, play and wrestle.  We have many fun art days, play dough activities, pudding finger-painting days etc. Our floors are the most difficult thing to keep clean and I am constantly sweeping/mopping/vacuuming.  So naturally my husband had the perfect Valentine's gift picked out for me.  He was so sure that he was making my life better/easier and I was going to be so thrilled.  I took a bunch of time to pick out the perfect gift for my honey...a homemade coupon book filled with all the best redeemable coupons that I just KNEW he would LOVE!!  I LOVE surprises, LOVE homemade things and LOVE Hersheys Kisses.  So I was pretty excited for Valentine's Day.  When I saw the long pole with the bow on top I was quite disappointed that I got something for the HOUSE instead of something romantic.  Really I am not complaining about the thought that went in to the gift.  I know my honey had every great intention and I love him for that.  I'm so grateful he's my man and he learned a great deal on the Valentine's Day on what I really look forward to on Valentine's Days.

-The worst gift I ever gave my wife was a bag of frozen tortellini. In my defense, I really thought she'd like it, she talked about some tortellini dish she had at a baby shower, so I figured, what the heck, tortellini will be a cool Valentine's Day present. I even bought the "tri-colored" kind. Anyway, I really couldn't wrap it because it was frozen, so I just left it in the plastic yellow grocery bag, which I guess you can call Strike 2.Strike 3 was sort of cringe-worthy. My wife opened the plastic bag, and upon seeing the tortellini, mistook the pasta as a symbol of a larger gift, a longed-for trip to Italy. She started screaming "We're going to ITALY, we're going to ITALY", and I was shaking my head saying "No, we're definitely not going to Italy". It was then that she cocked her head to the side and stared at me and said "Well, then, what the heck is this about??"I tried to explain, but all was lost. I became the butt of jokes, crowned the Tortellini King, and lots of people had fun at my expense over my colossal lapse in gift-giving judgment!

-A few years ago for Mother's Day I gave my wife a weight bench. I thought it was great. She had been trying to work out more and we had talked about what she wanted to do more of at the gym. I really thought she would like having a weight bench at home.I was so excited to give it to her thinking I had chosen a perfect gift. My kids gave her the presents they had made a school, and then it was my turn. The size of the box was huge and she couldn't even lift it. She tore off the wrapping paper and stared at the box, she didn't say a word. I looked at my teenage daughter and she just rolled her eyes at me. I looked at my wife, she wasn't happy. The younger kids just left the room. My wife sat down on the couch, she didn't cry, but I could tell that I had chosen the wrong gift. She explained that giving a weight loss product as a gift made her feel fat. I tried to explain me reasoning. I explained that if it was me, this is something I would love. She said "good, you can keep it for Father's Day", and left the room.Later that same day I picked up a huge bouquet of flowers, a large box of chocolates, and a necklace. All was forgiven. But I still think it was a good gift.

-Ok I have been told  by  a hole in the wall- one was a power tool and nope not a vibrator- I got her a set of rechargeable tools and a rechargeable car battery..she said that was not very romantic and thru it thru the wall. Ok so the power tool was something I wanted and I also bought myself a bunch of stuff and did not realize it was Valentines Day until  She handed me the gift she got- duh I saw the hearts at the store- did not think..but did not think she would throw- but hey her throw was really great!

    Send ProFlowers Valentine’s Day Giveaway#
    Post By Steve "fyiguy" Hughes

We are teaming up with ProFlowers.com to give the gift of giving during Valentine's Day with the Send ProFlowers Valentine’s Day Giveaway. We know that finding the "right gift" can be hard at times, but flowers always has the right way of sending the right message to loved ones. On of the best services on the web that I use frequently outside of tech is ProFlowers. This Holiday season when I asked my mother what she wanted for Christmas she said she had everything she needed, but would like some fresh flowers every so often like the ones I sent her on her birthday and Mother's Day. So I opted get her a subscription plan that would send flower and plant shipments to her every other month from a company that I have used in the past and is the company I always keep going back to because ProFlowers.com provides the usual fresh flowers delivered in a box - usually with a free vase (if there is no offer for a free one- just click on the microphone in the upper right hand corner and enter in Howard or Rich) , but also flowers that last for more than 7 days.

    ProFlowers

We all know that Valentine's Day is 12 days away and starting now you will have the opportunity to enter up until 11:59 PM EST on February 8th to make sure you can order and send your gift out on time! ProFlowers has even done a survey that says 76% of women want flowers other than red roses on Valentine's Day so choose wisely if you do order flowers this year!!!

From all the eligible entrants we will choose the winners at random for a $70 gift certificate to ProFlowers.com.
